This clip (sorry) never fails to cheer me up. Comics Adam Felber and Paul Provenza riff on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, the NPR news quiz. Adam makes a Tessio reference, and it’s off to the races. Skip to about 1:40 if you want just the bit.

I remember that one! I used to listen to Car Talk every Saturday morning, and eventually started leaving the radio on for WWDTM, which aired afterward. But ever since Tom passed, my radio hasn’t been on much during the weekend.

I gotta get back into catching this show. Maybe I’ll catch yesterday’s rerun when it comes on later today.

Some of the Car Talk reruns feature calls I haven’t heard ... which is unusual because I’ve been listening for a long time.

And I wrote for the show - mostly Bugsy bits. It’s NPR, so I was paid in t-shirts. “Tenafly, matzoh bri, ham on rye ... stop on by!” That’s mine.

Haha, those are great!

The very first show I heard was in... I want to say the late ’90s, and the episode playing just so happened to feature the now-famous “dimly-lit Quonset hut” puzzler. References to that puzzler kept coming back “out of the inky shadows” in later episodes, and I considered myself lucky to be in on the joke, despite being a new listener.

I have resisted the urge to win the puzzler when I know the answer from listening back in the 90s. Not fair. Besides, I have enough Car Talk t-shirts to clothe the people living on my floor.

That may be one of the funniest moments in WWDTM history.

As this might be one of the best Car Talk segments ever:
